Seconds to Spare: How Radios Helped Firefighters Win the Race Against Flames
It started as a routine call:
“Small kitchen fire, residential block, unit 302.”
But when Station 47’s team arrived, thick black smoke had already filled the stairwell. The fire was spreading fast—much faster than expected.
Inside, communication became life-or-death.
The building's intercom? Fried.
Cell signals? Gone.
Only one thing worked: their CARRBORG Pro X13 radios.
“Engine 2, report your floor!”
“We’re on 4. Heavy smoke. One resident trapped.”
“Copy. Rescue 1—enter via fire escape, reach window 402.”
“Received. Moving in.”
Outside, the commander used the CARRBORG desktop dashboard to track which radios were online, in which team, and in which zone.
At 6 minutes in, a warning:
“Ceiling collapse risk in stairwell B.”
“All teams evacuate stairwell B immediately. Route change: move to stairwell A.”
Thanks to encrypted, interference-free communication, no message was missed.
The trapped resident was pulled out via window. No injuries. Fire contained within 11 minutes.
